The Governor of Gilan province has announced the start of exploratory drilling for oil in the Caspian Sea, calling it a "historic and strategic" move for Iran. According to Baran Press, in a statement, on May 9, 2025, the Governor highlighted the importance of using Iran's natural resources, something neighboring countries have been doing for years. Dr Hagh Shenas said: With the efforts of the government and the Ministry of Petroleum, the oil exploration will transform Gilan into a new center for economic growth in the region and the country. Amin Ofoghi has been appointed as the CEO of the Mazandaran Free Zone by the Minister of Economy. According to Baran Press, Ofoghi previously served as a board member and the Deputy for Ports and the Caspian Sea at the Anzali Free Zone. In addition to his CEO appointment, Ofoghi, along with Hamid Hashemi, Mohammad Rahmani, Mehdi Yahyizadeh, and Fatemeh Malek Kheili, has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mazandaran Free Trade-Industrial Zone Organization, according to a decree by the First Vice President.
